OSTEOPATHY
What exactly is it?
The founder of Osteopathy was the doctor Andrew Taylor Still. He started a school in the USA in 1892. In Denmark, it was not until the year 2000 that a school was established, and only fully qualified doctors and physiotherapists can take the course.
The basic idea in osteopathy is that the body always tries to repair the damages and problems that may arise, if it is able to do so.
When pain or reduced mobility nevertheless occurs, the osteopath wants to find out why the body does not solve the problem itself. In order to get closer to the causal mechanisms, not only the area that causes pain is examined, but the body as a whole.
In practice, this means that I will ask about your body history. It can be anything from injuries, operations you have had, which medicine you take, to how your digestion works. You will be examined thoroughly, after which we will jointly discuss method and determine a treatment plan.
The cause of the pain is rarely found where the pain is and therefore the starting point for the treatment can start in a completely different place. For example, pain in a heel can be caused by scar tissue after a caesarean section, which can disrupt both the nerve and the blood supply to the heel.
Headaches can be a symptom of digestive problems, as the nerves that monitor and control digestion come from the brain.
What can be treated?
The philosophy is that it is the body's basic health that you try to optimize with osteopathy, so that pain in the body's muscles and joints is minimized or removed completely.
Examples of problems that can benefit from osteopathy:
Lower back pain
Shoulder and neck pain
Scar tissue after operations
Discomfort after removal of uterus
Children with postpartum problems such as colic and reflux
Digestive problems such as constipation and irritable bowel syndrome
Jaw problems
Follows after concussion
Whiplash
Headache
Migraine etc.
